What Has The Environment Ever Done For Us? Ep.5: The Transition of Transport
The clock is ticking on tackling climate change. But with Covid-19 dominating the headlines, is global warming in danger of becoming a forgotten crisis?

To ensure sustainability stays top of the agenda, Cratus has partnered with specialist consultancy, Stantec, to deliver a programme of engaging environmental webinars in the run up to COP26 in Glasgow. Relevant to both seasoned environmentalists and those starting out on their sustainability journey - the series is already proving to be both educational and entertaining as it explores the key question ‘what has the environment ever done for us?’

Our special guests this month are; Greg Marsden, Professor of Transport Governance at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds and Network Director at DecarboN8, and James Birch, Managing Director of Local Highways and Executive Sponsor for Sustainability at Kier.

Greg and James will joining our regular panel comprising:

Nick Kilby - CEO, Cratus Communications
Keith Mitchell - Regional (UK) Director Community Development and Infrastructure, Stantec
Vikki Slade - Associate Director and Sustainability Lead, Cratus Communications
Jonathan Riggall - Director of Energy and Natural Resources, Stantec
Jenny Hughes - Climate Change and Social Values Manager, Stantec

Together, our panel will be discussing:
- How can road building, which is in itself a carbon rich activity designed to move vehicles which are - intense users of fossil fuels and carbon, ever be a carbon neutral activity?
- How will climate change in the UK change the way we need to maintain/build roads in coming decades?
- Has the impact of EVs or alternative fuels been overstated?
- How we use our roads, and if the growth of road infrastructure should be paused?
